2021 Islay Weddings - A Review
2021 was a crazy, up and down, wonderful, busy, frantic Islay wedding filled year.
At the start of the year, we didn’t know where we were going to be with weddings. The Islay Festival (Fèis Ìle) was virtual again and we were just hoping that we’d be able to have some of the weddings that were planned for the year. Wedding restrictions kept changing, dates were set, backup dates were set and we all wondered what we would be able to do.
As it turned out, we managed a great mix of Islay elopements, small and intimate weddings and even a few bigger family weddings. My Islay Wedding season started in May with 3 weddings in three glorious days – marked by some beautiful, emotional weddings on Islay and Jura, plus some lovely Islay sunshine too!
Islay Elopements
First came Emma and Elod, a wonderful couple who set a beautiful tone for the rest of the year. This was possibly the most emotional elopement or wedding I have been involved in. Emma and Elod are such an indescribably amazing couple, I struggle to put it into words. I highly recommend you take a look at their beautiful gallery from Singing Sands and Ardbeg here.
All of the other Islay elopements also had their whisky weddings, Alyson and Sean had a wonderful Machrie wedding, Melanie and John had a few drams on their Islay Rhinns Roadtrip, Miriam and Bernd had a wonderful Finlaggan ceremony followed by Bunnahabhain and Bowmore drams, and Sarah and Tibo’s fantastic Ardbeg ceremony just has to be viewed!
Intimate Family Weddings
Islay and Jura also had their fair share of smaller family weddings, each of which were all fantastic sunny weddings! Kim and Gordon marked my first Jura wedding on Corran Sands, the Jura skies breaking into blue skies. Alice and Tom had their private Saligo ceremony the following day, as did Graeme and Jennifer both having their ceremonies bathed in Islay sunshine!
Welcome back friends and Family!
As we reached the summer, bigger weddings were possible and we had some wonderful celebrations surrounded by family and friends!
Catriona and Jonathan started the larger weddings, again under stunning cloudless skies at Dunlossit and Ardnahoe. Janice and Mark had a wonderful ceremony surrounded by Islay friends, plus the many that had made the journey from Peterborough (my old stomping ground). Finally, Joe and Laura combined traditional church wedding with a fantastic party in the family ‘shed’. It has been so nice to be able to have these bigger ceremonies again.
So, what does 2022 hold? For a start, the Islay Festival will be back (fingers crossed!!!) I do a lot of the social media and create the content for them, so please do head over and take a look at some of the content I created for last year’s festival here.
There’s a fantastic range of Islay, Jura and Mainland weddings coming up, so do keep an eye on my social media - and if there’s anything I can help you with, please do just get in touch!
